Batman Arkham series gets animated spin-off
Batman’s Arkham series is the most successful superhero videogame franchise to date, and it has even inspired a direct to DVD game inspired movie.
The movie takes place between the third game Arkham Origins released in 2013 and next year’s game Arkham Knight. It is focused on the Suicide Squad – a team of villains including Harley Quinn, Black Spider, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Killer Frost, KGBeast and King Shark – recruited to infiltrate the Asylum and assassinate the Riddler.
Heath Corson who wrote the animated movie ‘Justice League: War’ and ‘Justice league: Throne of Atlantis’, claims that “You will see Batman use moves that he uses in the game”.
Director Jay Olivia who helped storyboard Man of Steel and Batman V Superman said “I didn’t want to make it a commercial for the game. I wanted it to be a cinematic adventure…. When we got the script back I said ‘I want to direct this like a Guy Ritchie/ Steven Soderbergh/ Ocean’s Eleven film, a little over the top, a little more stylistic’”.
The film was released for purchase on the 29th July 2014 and is called Batman: Assault on Arkham. It’s trailer can be seen below. Beneath that is the trailer for the 2015 game Batman: Arkham Knight.
