Sony working to produce Marvel’s Venom movie
Sony Pictures is at it again, after years of almost making this film since the release of The Amazing Spider-Man, they have decided that the next movie from the Marvel universe will be a Spider-Man spin-off about Venom.
After Sony’s announcement last February that they will be rebooting the Spider-Man franchise in partnership with Marvel Studios, it seemed like there were no plans yet for the spin-offs like Venom and The Sinister Six.
According to the information announced so far by Sony Pictures, this spin-off film is definitely in production, however, contrary to popular belief, the film will not be connected too deeply with the Marvel universe, instead, Sony Pictures reported the film’s main focus will be Venom’s journey as a separate franchise.
Public announcements have been made several time announcing involvement in the project with movie giants coming in and out, with Gary Ross and Josh Trank set to direct at one point, writing teams such as Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick from Deadpool and Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci were attached to write the script at various points in the early development process.
After all these changes, Sony have now officially anounced the film to be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, it will be directed by Alex Kurtzman, -known for films like Transformers (2007) or the latest Star Trek franchise- and the story will be written by Edge of Tomorrow writer, Dante Harper.
Venom was originally conceived as a villain, but he became an anti-hero and almost one of the good guys for some period of time in the comics, nonetheless, the current Marvel Comics portray Eddie Brock (Venom’s real name) as a villain who has teamed up with Flash Thompson, Peter Parker’s old high school nemesis who now works as a government agent.
There has been unofficial speculation on the Internet, but so far it is impossible to predict the path will the story take and what face of Venom we will be seeing on the big screen.
