Nokia Lumia 1520 : Big Phone For A Big Price
Lumia 1520 Overview
The Nokia Lumia 1520 has recently been released in the UK market. The ‘phablet’ is part of Nokia’s high-end range of devices, with some amazing specs but is it good enough for you to reach deep into your pockets?
The Nokia Lumia 1520 comes with a very elegant 6″ full HD (1920 x 1080) screen with a PPI of 368, perfect for watching HD movies for sharp detail and clarity. The device has been fitted with a Clearblack IPS LCD Supersensitive Touchscreen, with Gorilla Glass 3 to protect the phone from minor bumps and dents. The screen has also been optimised for good viewing angles and outdoor readability. The phone is currently available in three colours in the UK; Black, Red and White.
The phone is powered by a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 Processor and the new Windows 8 operating system. The Lumia 1520 has a massive 3400 mAh battery life for an estimated 25 hours talk time or around 690 hours standby time and 2GB of RAM, making it one of the most powerful Lumias to date.
The camera is probably the highlight of this device. It comes with a stunning 20 MP camera sensor which is more than capable of taking some impressive pictures. It also comes with a 1.2 MP HD front-facing camera, which is perfect for video-calls. The “Storyteller” app automatically organises your photos by time and location, making it easy to tell a story to your loved ones simply through your device and it’s images. The device also includes 4 microphones which enables distortion-free and immersive sound, which makes it perfect for calling and recording.
The phone is also pre-loaded with Microsoft Office so users are able to use programmes such as Word and PowerPoint to edit and create documents. The device is also compatible for Wireless Charging, simply place the phone on a charging pad and it will charge the phone without using any cables. The device comes with a generous 32 GB internal memory and external memory which can expanded by a micro SD card (up to 64 GB)
This Nokia Lumia 1520 is certainly a praiseworthy device with some fantastic specifications, but here comes the biggest downside, it’s price! It is available for a whopping £559.99 (Sim-Free) or free from around £38.99 on a 24 month contract. Some may also find the screen-size too big and annoying, which does limit it’s portability. Another downside is the Windows OS because although many may find it easy to use and interesting, it is in fact quite boring especially with the limited range of apps available to download.
Final Word
The phone includes some amazing specifications, probably making it one of the most interesting Lumia’s in recent years, but the price is too high, the apps aren’t very great and the screen is too large. If you are looking for a phone with a decent screen size, then an android (which has a much better OS and a greater range of apps) such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 to HTC One would probably be more suitable. However if you are looking to buy a Windows Phone with amazing specifications, then this phone would be the perfect choice.
