BAFTA Roundup: La La Land Wins Big, “I, Daniel Blake” Follows Behind

Here are some of the key highlights of this year’s BAFTA awards: La La Land led from the front: The Hollywood musical was nominated in 11 categories, and won in five, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Film and Best Actress for Emma Stone. Just ahead of the Oscars, the film shows no signs of slowing down, with it dominating every single award show ceremony so far. La La Land has already smashed the record for the most Golden Globes, winning a total of seven awards last month.

Sony working to produce Marvel’s Venom movie

Sony Pictures is at it again, after years of almost making this film since the release of The Amazing Spider-Man, they have decided that the next movie from the Marvel universe will be a Spider-Man spin-off about Venom.

After Sony’s announcement last February that they will be rebooting the Spider-Man franchise in partnership with Marvel Studios, it seemed like there were no plans yet for the spin-offs like Venom and The Sinister Six.

According to the information announced so far by Sony Pictures, this spin-off film is definitely in production, however, contrary to popular belief, the film will not be connected too deeply with the Marvel universe, instead, Sony Pictures [...]

John Wick is Back

After the success of the original, the sequel John Wick: Chapter Two already started filming last year and Lionsgate just announced that the release date of the sequel is set for February of 2017.

Written by Derek Kolstad, with Chad Stahelski in the direction, Keanu Reeves back in the main role as John Wick the retired hitman, among others like Bridget Moynahan, Peter Stormare, Ruby Rose, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo and Lance Reddick.

The cameras are currently being rolled in Rome, Italy, and according to the crew, the story in this sequel will be more based around the Continental Hotel, a place in the story were only hitmen are able to stay.

Deadpool smashes box office records with $150 million opening weekend

Deadpool has launched to a box office record breaking total of $150 million in the US and $265 million worldwide. The previous record for President’s Day weekend was set by Fifty Shades of Grey which opened at $93 million.

Deadpool was stuck in development for over 10 years until the test footage was leaked online two years ago. Fans bombarded 20th Century Fox with messages that forced them to green light the project. Before this film, Deadpool was last seen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine where he received a negative reception partly due to the fact his mouth was sewn shut.
