Deadpool has launched to a box office record breaking total of $150 million in the US and $265 million worldwide. The previous record for President’s Day weekend was set by Fifty Shades of Grey which opened at $93 million.
Deadpool was stuck in development for over 10 years until the test footage was leaked online two years ago. Fans bombarded 20th Century Fox with messages that forced them to green light the project. Before this film, Deadpool was last seen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine where he received a negative reception partly due to the fact his mouth was sewn shut.

The newest trailer for Deadpool starts us off with a glorious shot of the city. And it wastes no time in introducing the hilariously obscene “merc with a mouth”, known as Deadpool.
At the back of a cab, the playful masked assassin, does whatever he pleases, joining the driver at the front in an act of friendship and spontaneity. Introducing himself as “pool. Dead”, invoking the greeting made famous by James Bond, and kicking off one of the most entertaining, and informative Deadpool trailers to date.

As with previous years, films in 2014 are teaming with sequels and various reboots and remakes. This isn’t a bad thing as long as they are handled well. This being said, sequels are notorious for being bad and therefore I am pessimistic about the quality of films in 2014. It will most definitely be a year which boasts advances in CGI and there will be blockbusters, but unfortunately this prevents the emergence of new original films.
